week 6: capstone ideas, and weekly learnings

part 1: capstone ideas

Our team met up on Friday, and we discussed some ideas for a possible capstone project. One idea that we all liked the idea of was working on a 2D platform game engine. This idea to me was really exciting but made me nervous since I'm not very experienced with game design. We would like to discuss further what type to build, which languages to use, and how we're going to present this to the rest of the cohort later on. Rene suggested creating a rogue-like video game, that had randomly generated levels. Another idea that came up was using AI for some type of project since we're all very passionate about this. One idea that Martin had that was really exciting was to build a product that could read handwritten words. I really liked this idea a lot. Hopefully, as the weeks come and go, we can think about this even further.

part 2: weekly learnings

This week, I learned a lot by reviewing the writing lab readings. We opted to not do peer review this week since we had a lot of other assignments going on. However, next week, we will do a peer review for each other. We did discuss our topics together, and how we would like to implement different types of improvements based on each other's ideas. I also was really happy to see the ethics essay template, since I was feeling a bit lost on how to format my essay. This template really helped me visualize how I can finish this essay. Finally, I reviewed the recommended reading, which was about paraphrasing. One issue I have with writing is that I ramble a lot, so this slideshow was a great resource to review.

The lecture had some valuable information about what companies expect from new hires. Using the resources on the CSUMB career development page, and the resume/cover letter guide, I was able to craft and edit both of these for myself and submit them in for the homework. The two videos about software engineering interviews were also insightful, and I played these in the background while completing other homework from this class that I had.
